Elijah Craig – Small Batch
elijah craig 720x720 brand page Spirits Specials

Long before the term Small Batch even existed, our Master Distillers were hand-selecting just the right number of barrels to make Elijah Craig. This expertise and attention to detail give Elijah Craig Small Batch the right balance of rich flavor and full body. Each small batch carries a signature warm spice and subtle smoke flavor. A combination that belongs in any Bourbon fan’s regular rotation.

Xoriguer Mohan Gin

As of 2016, Xoriguer Mahón Gin still qualifies for protection as a gin with a geographical indication under European Union Regulation No 110/2008. Famously, you might remember Plymouth Gin formerly qualified for this as well; however, under the terms of the 2008 regulation, trademark owners had to produce and publicly distribute a technical file which would disclose “what makes this spirit unique.” Plymouth, and Plymouth trademark owners Pernod Ricard, saw the value in the process rather than the GI, and decided to rather than disclose the details of what makes Plymouth so unique, they opted to forgo the Geographical Indication. On the other hand, the GI was so important to La Isla De Menroce, that they did indeed file a technical summary which describes the process in keen detail. Under the terms of the 2008 law, the E.U. approved the technical file and Gin de Mahón is still protected.

Código 1530 Singel Barrel Anejo

Tequila Codigo, launched in late 2016, has plenty of industry power behind it, but it also finds support in the form of country Spirits Specialsicon George Strait, who is an investor and brand ambassador.

Made in the region of Los Bajos, these are all 100% blue agave tequilas. Curiously, all of the aged expressions spend time not in ex-bourbon barrels, which is traditional, but rather in used French oak Napa cabernet sauvignon wine barrels. This takes Codigo’s tequilas in an entirely new direction, for better or for worse.

Of the five Tequila expressions available from Codigo, the anejo is the one that really showcases the quality of the brand due to its year-long maturation in French oak ex-wine casks. As a result, it’s full of that exotic oak spice that only French oak can exert, and the wine influence acts like a milder Sherry note, adding that little hint of chewiness that whisky fans tend to really enjoy. It’s a high end anejo tequila, but it’s one that absolutely delivers on all fronts. This single cask expression is rich and supple on the palate with agave notes of savory and citrus accented and lifted by the French oak flavors of sweet spice.

Spirits Specials Mars Komagatake Shinanotanpopo – Nature of Shinshu Whiskey

The third release in the Nature of Shinshu range from Mars Shinshu is the Shinanotanpopo single malt Japanese whisky, which was made by combining a well-aged whisky from their warehouses with a much younger whisky. “Shinanotanpopo”, for those curious, means “dandelion flower”.
